temporary one not involving any question of pension or

leave pay I do not anticipate that the arrangment now sug-

gested will involve further applications from him in the

event of the dollar falling below 2/-.

3.

I have informed Mr. Bowley that I am unable

to entertain the request embodied in the final paragraph of

his letter with regard to payment of his salary during 1906

at a different rate to that adopted for the sterling sala-

ries of other officers.

Should Your Lordship approve of the recom-

mendation now made I should be glad if I may be so inform-

ed by telegraph in order that the necessary provision may

be embodied in the estimates now under preparation.

A

telegram consisting of the single word "Bowley" will suf-

fice for this purpose.

5.

I would add that the reasons for continuing

to employ Mr. Bowley set forth in the despatch to which

reference is made above still obtain.

I have the honour to be,

My Lord,

Your Lordship's most obedient,

humble servant,

Mhathan

Governor, &@.
